Things to check before you get YouView
Before you buy anything, let’s make sure you can use YouView in your home. Here’s a checklist of things you’ll need:
- An aerial with a good signal
- At least a 3Mb/s broadband connection
- A wired connection to your router. The box should come with an Ethernet Cable but if your router is too far from your TV, then you may need a pair of Powerline adapters.
Don’t forget to check your digital TV coverage on the Freeview website and your broadband speed using a broadband speed checker.
Does it matter who my broadband provider is?
No, we work with any broadband connection.
Do I need a monthly subscription?
The choice is yours.
Buy a box from a retail store and you can use it subscription free. We have thousands of free On Demand programmes to watch but if you want a little more, we offer a range of subscription services, like Netflix, you can sign up to.
Looking for something a bit extra? You can get even more channels from one of our broadband partners.
More information about what is available on YouView can be found on our website.
Do I need a TV licence?
Yes you do. You have to be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record any TV as it's being broadcast. For full details of the cost, terms and conditions of a TV Licence, please see the TV Licensing website.
