Surround sound

A YouView Box FAQ

Turning your living room into a mini cinema? Let us give you a hand with that:

To set up surround sound you’ll need either an optical cable or a HDMI cable, depending on your sound system. Pick your preferred connection:

  1. Connect one end of your optical cable to the SPDIF port on the back of your box
  2. Connect the other end of the optical cable to the SPDIF/Optical port on your surround sound system
  3. Change your audio settings
  1. Connect one end of your HDMI cable to the HDMI port on the back of your YouView box
  2. Connect the other end of your HDMI cable to the HDMI In port on the back of your surround sound system
  3. Connect another HDMI cable to the HDMI out port on the back of your surround sound system
  4. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the  back of your TV
  5. Change your audio settings

Once you’ve connected your cables, make sure everything is turned on, and then change your audio option in settings.

A simple retune may do the trick:

  1. Open the Menu
  2. Select Settings*
  3. From Box management select Picture & Sound
  4. Select HDMI Audio Format or S/PDIF sound
  5. Change this to Surround
  6. Select Done

If you change HDMI Audio Format to surround, this will change your box volume to 100% and you won’t be able to change your volume using your box remote. You’ll need to use your surround sound remote.

*Settings can be found via the cog in the top right corner of the Menu. You can get to the cog by pressing Up and right after opening the Menu.
